George Curtis was one of my closest friends and a fellow veteran. He and I were volunteering our time together to help other veterans and first responders in similar situations. George would happily take his entire day, or week, to visit elderly veterans, injured veterans, those in hospital or just someone he knew needed a friend. I once saw George pay for an elderly gentleman’s meal in a restaurant, just because the man was alone. I guess George felt he could relate.
I was devastated when I got the news that my friend was gone without reaching out to me for help….. or to say goodbye.
